Obituary of Jesse A. Lewis, Jr.

Stafford – Jesse A. Lewis, Jr., 95, a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service in Niagara Falls prior to his retirement in 1980, died Friday, September 29, 2017 at his home in Stafford, NY.

Mr. Lewis was born November 9, 1921 in Niagara Falls, the son of the late Jesse A. (Sr.) and Margaret (West) Lewis.  He served in the US Navy during World II and participated in the Invasion of Normandy.  He was an active member of VFW Post 4252 in Hernando, FL and a volunteer with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.  He enjoyed playing softball until the age of 80 and was a lifelong golfer.  His wife, Noreen A. (Lymburner) Lewis passed away on March 10, 2011.

Survivors include his son Kurt (Nita) Lewis of Stafford, daughter Sharon (Ed) Cleveland of Youngstown, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one grandchild.

Private services with full military honors will be held at the National Cemetery of Florida in Bushnell, FL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hernando Post 4252, 3190 N. Carl G. Rose Hwy, Hernando, FL 34442.  Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co., Funeral Home in Batavia, NY.
