Obituary of Loretta San Fratello

Rochester - Loretta San Fratello, 94, of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, longtime bookkeeper for Sportservice at Batavia Downs Racetrack, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Ann's Home, in Irondequoit, NY.

Mrs. San Fratello was born August 6, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Raymond Giuliano and Josephine (Sorce) Giuliano. She was the matriarch of both the San Fratello and Giuliano families in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and niece. She will be remembered for her devotion to and love of family first, including all her extended family and friends of all ages.

She reveled in her home life, was a terrific (and creative) cook who enjoyed that role immensely - with stories to be told of her exploits by many over the years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church and St. Joseph’s Church. Her hobbies included making ceramics in her younger years and cultivating and nurturing house plants in later ones.

Her husband, Salvatore "Sam" San Fratello, passed away on September 16, 1995, one year before their 50th anniversary. They met during the early years of World War II.  She is also predeceased by her grandson, Jason Grizzanto who passed away on December 30, 2006 and her brothers, Sam, Lawrence and John Giuliano.

She is survived by her brother Albert Giuliano of Chicago; her children, Raymond (Carol) San Fratello of Clermont, Florida, Francine (Richard) Grizzanto of Webster and Jeffery (Amy Hamilton ) San Fratello of Batavia; five grandchildren, Kara, Kayla and Ryan San Fratello, Gina (Doug) Keddie and Michael Grizzanto; her great-grandson, Elijah Keddie; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street in Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  She will be entombed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
