Obituary of Everett Gordon Smith

Batavia - Everett Gordon Smith, 81, of Batavia, a Security Guard at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester prior to his retirement, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his home in Batavia.


Mr. Smith was born February 5, 1936 in Denver, CO, a son of the late Wesley Randall and Ethel Ahl Brown.


He served in the US Marine Corp from 1953 to 1973 having been deployed to Korea for a tour and Vietnam for 2 tours of duty.  He retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.  He was a member of Veterans Of Foreign Wars, Veness - Strollo Post 1602, and the American Legion.  He was active in the Marine Corp's Toys For Tots Campaign, was an avid hunter.  He enjoyed tending to his lawn and playing cards where he always won.  He loved his children and grandchildren and was always willing to help.


He is survived by his wife, Jean E.  (Russell) Smith, whom he married on January 12, 1957; his children, Debbie Robertson of Waco, TX, Gordon (Cindy) Smith of Batavia and Sharon (Craig) Belknap of Batavia; 9 grandchildren, Angela Robertson, Samantha Robertson, Matthew Smith, Sara Lipinski, Deanna Smith, Mandee Belknap and Michael (Krissy) Smith and 9 great-grandchildren; 6 siblings, Margaret Arnt of Rochester, Patricia Spring of Alexander, Alan (Diane) Brown of CA, Roger Brown of OR, Barbara (Jerry) Farraenola of Rochester and Paul (Joyce) Randall of Elba, and several nieces and nephews.  


He was the father of the late David Smith and brother of the late Bob Ahl, Mary Burkel and Helen Sanderson.


Friends may call on Monday, December 18, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, where services will follow at 4 p.m.  Private burial will be in Grand View Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
