Dear Brenda, we just learned of the passing of Merritt in reading the Batavia newspaper's online news. We were shocked and so sorry to read this. We know that you all will miss him dearly. He was a caring man who helped us when we were neighbors whether it be when we had our chimney fire or I twisted my ankle--Merritt was to the rescue! It has been 15 years since we moved, but we have fond memories of those 25 years we shared the same neighborhood. We trust that we will meet again one day in Glory! First Thessalonians 4:13-18

My mom just notified me of Merritt’s passing. My sympathies are with you, Brenda and your family. My favorite memory of Merritt is when he carried little Sharon across the street to your house when we had a chimney fire and our parents weren’t home. It was always nice knowing you guys were there if we needed anything.

I graduated from Pavilion Central School in 1967 and played baseball with Merritt. He was a great guy to be around. He was a great team mate. I read the Daily News on the Internet once in a while and just happened to see his obituary and was shocked. Very sorry for your loss.
Merritt, rest in peace old buddy.

Growing up, Merritt and his family were such a huge part of our family. I have such fond memories of being at their house playing "huckle buckle bean stalk" with Merritt while Dad and Clark drank Carling Black Label beer! And, how good his family was to us when our house burnt. Merritt's laugh was loud and infectious! I remember watching him, along with Jim and Larry, just simply throwing stones across the road as they laughed and talked at the end of our driveway about whatever it is that young boys talk about while doing such a thing. I will always cherish those memories. My heart is heavy, as it's like losing a brother. My thoughts are with you and your family Brenda as you struggle with this loss.

Thank you Merritt for letting me be a part of your amazing family:) From the time Megan and I met at age 3, you treated me and my family like family. I always felt welcomed and loved, and that is how you treated everyone. From family, to friends, to strangers; your heart is so big to except everyone:) I will miss you greatly. I heard Love Shack this morning and I knew it was you saying hi and giving me a reminder to just breath, no worries, because at the time the song came on, I was disciplining my two boys. I knew you were telling me to take a step back, everything will be alright. And that's what I did. It warms my heart to know that your family has one amazing guardian angel.
