Obituary of Richard M. Cain

Oakfield - Richard M. "Morrie" Cain, 93, of Oakfield, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia

 

Gone fishing.

 

Richard was born December 31, 1925, in Akron, a son of the late Cleo and Helen (Garrison) Cain.

 

Morrie attended Akron High School and enjoyed golfing and gold prospecting.  He will be remembered as an outdoorsman, who schooled several generations of fishermen and shared his outdoor knowledge with many.  A veteran with the United States Navy from 1944-1946, he served aboard the USS Cabildo as a gunner's mate during World War II.  After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Richard lived in Oakfield and worked as mine worker at the United States Gypsum also in Oakfield. 

 

Survivors include his brothers, Alvin (late Martha) Cain of Clarendon and Gary (late Loretta) Cain of East Pembroke; sisters, Gail Cain of Albion, Audrey (late Earl) Potter of Indian Falls and Gaye (late Billy) Bolton of Florida and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.            

 

Richard was predeceased by a brother, Cleo Cain, Jr. and a sister, Cherie Cain. 

Calling hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue in Oakfield, where services will be held at 3:00 p.m. also on Friday.  Richard will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Medina.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the Oakfield Fire Department, P.O. Box 184, Oakfield, NY 14125.
