Virginia, my heart breaks for you. What an incredible man of God, in so many ways, was your Ray. I was privileged to know him, to hear him sing, to discuss his work, and to see his walk through life in the more recent years I had known him. What a party he's attending now, in heaven! I wish you God's Peace, His Comfort, and His healing through these coming days of mourning, dear friend. God bless you, Jackie Deatcher

Ray was a wonderful person. I really enjoyed working with him at Batavia High School where he impacted many lives. It was also my pleasure to invite Ray to preach in our church, a message always followed by his wonderful singing. Ray always greeted anyone with a smile and a friendly conversation. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Ray for years at Batavia High School. He was always super supportive, kind, "present," respectful and looking out for the best interests of all students. I haven't seen him in years but he certainly had a positive impact on my career and I am better off to have known him. Condolences to his family and friend. He will be missed. Sincerely, Mike Sweeney

It is with sincere respect for Ray's vocal talent that I share this memory of his gifted narration of Tom Scott's "Creation" during my time as the conductor of the Genesee Chorale in the early 90's. I also had the pleasure of accompanying Ray in several performances at various churches. His love of the Lord shone through every word he sang. Any time you worked with Ray you knew you were part of a quality team. He was (and continues to be) a true inspiration to me.

Ray had a huge impact on the lives of so many here in Batavia..He had a large influence on those with whom he worked in the Batavia schools... He was respected by his colleagues and always fair, understanding and admired by those he served, especially the students with whom he dealt daily.. He showed compassion as well as authority in his difficult role as assistant principal, and we are grateful for his service and his kindness. BHS teacher Carl DeLuca

Several years ago, I noticed Ray in the congregation of the Batavia First Baptist Church one Sunday. I was a member of the choir and I was always looking for talented singers for our summer services. After the service I went up to Ray and asked if he would sing for one of our summer services because we had "special music" during the summer months when the choir would be off until September. He laughed - which he seemed to do often - and he agreed to sing for us.
At the time, we had an interim minister while a search was going on to find a permanent minister. Eventually Ray became the permanent minister at FBC. I think that was around 2004 or 2005 because he took over as minister after I was no longer attending FBC since I had moved to Wayland, NY. I did not get to hear many of his Sunday sermons because of that move. The last time I heard him speak was at my mother's funeral in May of 2009. He had such a powerful voice and presence.
I have been living in Florida since 2013, so I did not see Ray again until my sister passed away in June of 2018 when he came to see us at the funeral home, He had retired, so the FBC minister at that time took care of my sister's funeral.
Every time I talked on the phone with my sister Sandra, she was very worried about Ray and his serious health problems. Now that he has passed, he is probably singing in the heavenly choir and I hope that Sandra is singing there, too.
To the Walker Family: Please accept my condolences.

There are different things I remember about him, between the first day we walked into the Batavia high school with his cowboy boots and hat on to the friendship we built from seeing him around to his flying airplanes. I've always had a poor view of most authority figures; but my High School Vice Principal Mr. Walker understood that you had to show respect to get it. When I received discipline from him, I always agreed with the punishment and thought "well that's fair for what I did." He saw many of us misfits not for the mess ups we were, but for the men and women that we could grow to become. He was one of the only people at that school who didn't simply dismiss me as a lost cause. If it wasn't for him I probably would have never graduated high school and go on to do things that most never thought I would accomplish. I thank him for giving me and other's a chance. #RIPraywalker- Peter Badami (BHS class of 2006)

Mr Walker was not only my principal but he also performed my wedding ceremony on his birthday 10 1/2 years ago. When we had asked him to do the ceremony and he asked the date ,he chuckled and said yes but you better bring me some cake . An amazing man that will be missed by many.
