Obituary of Allan D. Loughborough

Syracuse - Allan D. Loughborough, age 87, of Syracuse, formerly of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Mr. Loughborough was born January 4, 1930 in Rochester, the son of the late Eldred C. and Leonora Steffen Loughborough. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. Mr. Loughborough's career as a pharmacist spanned 54 years. His father, Eldred, was the former owner of Central Pharmacy in Pittsford, where Allan's career began. He was the owner of Chilson's Pharmacy in Brighton for many years, worked for 10 years as the pharmacist at the Albion Correctional Facility and at K-Mart. Al was a member and past president of the New York State Board of Pharmacy. A longtime member of Holy Family Parish in Albion, he was a member of Our Lady of Peace in Syracuse. He was a member of the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department from 1953-1978 serving as Battalion Chief for 3 years. A friend of Bill W., he raced harness horses for many years. He enjoyed fishing at Canandaigua Lake and had a camp in the village of Honeoye Falls for many years. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He is predeceased by his first wife, the former Jean Arndt Loughborough who passed away in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Donna Roth Loughborough, whom he married October 2, 1985; his children, Mary Lee Bishopp of Pittsford, Thomas W. (Anne) Loughborough and Ann (Jim) Doeller, both of Rochester; step-children, Patrick (Jackie) Salvador of Liverpool and Susan (Dennis) Tresco of East Syracuse; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Gerald (late Mary Ann) Schuler of Batavia. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home 403 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
