My memories of Jean Doody were etched on me when my brothers and I grew up in the neighborhood with her sons Eddy and Doug. Jean was like a Mom to all of us and we always felt welcome in her home. We played endless hours of baseball and basketball in her yard. When we achieved the age of 11-12, we all got jobs selling peanuts, pretzels, and cracker jacks at McArthur stadium. Jean made money aprons for all of us novice salesmen. I enjoyed seeing her on occasion during my adult years. She always was positive, upbeat, and happy to see you. I feel like an era has ended with her passing. God Bless you Jean. You brought joy to many people.

I was wondering why I had not seen Mrs. Doody at Mass with Jean Smith. What a lovely woman Mrs Doody was. I always enjoyed chatting with her and catching no up on all of you, her beloved family.
We are so very sorry.

Dear Family,
I will always have a special place in my heart for sweet Nana Jean. She was a kind, soft spoken lady and I had the daily pleasure of working with her at OTB. She always was tolerant of those phone calls day after day, year after year. She was so missed when she retired. I also had the pleasure of seeing her when she moved into Jerome apts and I had a visit with her every summer when we came home from Florida. She adored her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. God bless her for her loving ways, Rest In Peace Nana, I will always love you. Kay

My grandma, Vera Lindsley, was Jean’s sister. When my grandma passed away 20 years ago, Jean pretty much was like a grandmother to me. Or, should I say, more of one since my grandma was no longer with us.
We didn’t spend lots of holidays together or see each other all the time, but we wrote back and forth, sent cards over the holidays and talked a lot on the phone. Our visits were always special. Aunt Jean always cared about what was going on in your life, no matter what.
We always chatted about her beloved Yankees and Bills. We talked about family. Frankly, you could talk to Jean about everything. I always looked forward to her “Heellll-lo-oh” as the phone rang. She always called me Michael and told me she loved me at the end of EVERY phone call. That was Jean.
I think the word to describe my Great Aunt Jean would be “kindness.” She didn’t have a bad bone in her body. Her positive attitude and spirit was something to behold.
To say that she will be missed is an understatement. She was so proud of her entire family that loves her very much.
Well, I for one am proud that she was a part of my life.
